The changelog is large[1] but:
Added:
- Type 3 colour and COLRv2 fonts
- Tee surfice automatically enabled
- Meson build system
Removed:
- The cairo-sphinx tool
- The XML, GL, GLES, Qt5, BeOS, OS/2, DirectFB, DRM, Cogl, and OpenVL
backends
- Autotools build system
These CVE patches have been merged upstream:
CVE-2018-19876.patch: 90e85c2493
CVE-2019-6461.patch: 09643ee1ab
CVE-2019-6462.patch: bbeaf08190
CVE-2020-35492.patch: c986a7310b
Some niche options have been removed in the migration to Meson, so the
recipe can be cleaned up.
Put libcairo-fdr ("flight data recorder") in the perf-utils package
instead of deleting it.
There is an executable test for IPC behaviour that needs to be set via a
cross file if qemu-user isn't available, thanks to Alex Kanavin for this
portion.

CVE-2019-6461 and CVE-2019-6462 are fixed, but the reporting is
incorrect as the patch for CVE-2019-6461 is actually for CVE-2019-6462
and vice-versa.
This swaps both files and edit the CVE field to report the correct
identifier.

Upstream went with something slightly different so let's update the
patch so we don't have to carry a patch that isn't going to be merged.
This patch is part of snapshot 1.17.6.

If the "trace" PACKAGECONFIG is removed to disable cairo-trace (the
only part of the code licensed as GPL-3.0), we can adapt the licenses
for cairo-dbg and cairo-src so that they do not include
"GPL-3.0-or-later" and thus they can be used also when, e.g., GPL-3.0
is blacklisted in INCOMPATIBLE_LICENSE. Also drop the GPL-3.0 license
text from LIC_FILES_CHKSUM in this case.

The trace tools are licensed under GPL-3.0-or-later but this wasn't
listed in LIC_FILES_CHKSUM. Fix that.
Ultimately we could disable that license if the trace PACKAGECONFIG is
disabled but I'll leave that to someone else if they're keen.

An automated conversion using scripts/contrib/convert-spdx-licenses.py to
convert to use the standard SPDX license identifiers. Two recipes in meta-selftest
were not converted as they're that way specifically for testing. A change in
linux-firmware was also skipped and may need a more manual tweak.

Commit 0e1f8fa0 (bitbake.conf: propagate 'opengl' DISTRO_FEATURE to
native/nativesdk from target) changed the default PACKAGECONFIG for
native and nativesdk so that it becomes empty unless "x11" is in
DISTRO_FEATURES since "trace" was also removed (propbably
unintentionally). This highlighted than an empty PACKAGECONFIG would
lead to a build failure since /usr/bin is never created under these
conditions, but the recipe still tried to remove it.

This will allow better control over native virgl/qemu configurations.
Adjust gtk+3/cairo native configurations to actually ignore opengl
when building for -native: we do not need it, and it would cause build
failures as only a limited subset of mesa-native is currently built.
Drop native/nativesdk overrides from virglrenderer/libepoxy recipes
as opengl feature is now correctly set for those variants.

gcc 4.9 now generates slim objects when LTO is used
These slim objects only contain intermediate language
representation for LTO. Use -ffat-lto-objects to create files which
contain additionally the object code. When linking some .so file, the option
'-flto' is missed, so the error happens.
We add '-ffat-lto-objects' flag to make gcc 4.9 behaves the same as gcc 4.8.
