If runqemu fails, there is some logic to run a set of commands to dump various bits of information that might help debug the issue (particularly in a busy situation such as on the autobuilder). One of those commands is "top -bn1", however top restricts the output to the width of the calling terminal, and for whatever reason this is a little restrictive when called from inside testimage, so set COLUMNS in the environment to a high value to fix it. (Another way is to use the -w option, but that is not supported by our default busybox configuration so it will then fail when this same list of commands is used on the target). QEMU Emulation Targets ====================== To simplify development, the build system supports building images to work with the QEMU emulator in system emulation mode. Several architectures are currently supported in 32 and 64 bit variants: * ARM (qemuarm + qemuarm64) * x86 (qemux86 + qemux86-64) * PowerPC (qemuppc only) * MIPS (qemumips + qemumips64) Use of the QEMU images is covered in the Yocto Project Reference Manual. The appropriate MACHINE variable value corresponding to the target is given in brackets.
